Job Title:Coordinator of Special Programs
Reports To: Director of Accountability and Planning
Location: Northampton County Schools, North Carolina
Position Summary
The Coordinator of Special Programs is responsible for providing leadership, coordination, and oversight for services supporting students in Exceptional Children (EC), Section 504, English as a Second Language (ESL), and Limited English Proficiency (LEP) programs. This role ensures compliance with state and federal regulations, promotes equitable access to education, and collaborates with school administrators, teachers, and parents to meet the diverse learning needs of students across the district.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate, monitor, and support the implementation of Section 504 plans districtwide to ensure legal compliance and appropriate accommodations.
- Provide leadership in the development and delivery of ESL and LEP programs, including assessment, placement, and instruction of English language learners.
- Collaborate with Exceptional Children’s staff to ensure appropriate identification, evaluation, and service delivery for students with disabilities.
- Provide professional development, technical assistance, and instructional support to teachers and administrators regarding 504, EC, ESL, and LEP compliance and instructional best practices.
- Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation in accordance with federal and state guidelines.
- Supervise EC Compliance Specialist, EC PreK, and EC Behavior Specialist.
- Serve as a liaison between schools, families, and outside agencies to support student success and ensure coordinated service delivery.
- Monitor program effectiveness and analyze student performance data to guide improvement efforts.
- Participate in district leadership teams and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications
- Valid North Carolina Teaching License.
- Current North Carolina EC (Exceptional Children) Administrator License.
- Master’s degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of five years of successful teaching or administrative experience in special education or related areas.
- Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state laws related to Section 504, IDEA, ESL, and LEP programs.

Work Schedule and Employment Terms
- Full-time, 12-month position.
- Salary aligned with the Northampton County Schools’ administrative pay scale and based on experience and licensure.
