Job Title: School Nutrition Substitute

 

Reports To: School Nutrition Manager and School Nutrition Director

 

Job Summary:
The School Nutrition Substitute assists in the preparation, serving, and clean-up of nutritious meals for students in accordance with federal, state, and local guidelines. This position helps ensure that students receive healthy meals in a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with preparing and serving breakfast and lunch to students and staff.

  • Operate and clean kitchen equipment and utensils according to safety and sanitation standards.

  • Stock and organize food and supply storage areas as directed.

  • Assist in receiving and storing food deliveries following inventory procedures.

  • Wash dishes, trays, and serving equipment.

  • Follow all food safety and sanitation regulations, including proper handwashing and glove use.

  • Maintain a clean and orderly kitchen, serving area, and dining space.

  • Support the School Nutrition Manager and team with any assigned tasks to ensure meal service runs smoothly.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

  • Ability to work well in a team environment.

  • Basic math, reading, and recordkeeping skills.

  • Physical ability to lift up to 40 pounds, stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive motions.

Work Environment:

  • Work is primarily performed in a school cafeteria or kitchen setting.

  • Work hours vary on an as-needed basis depending on school needs and employee availability.
