Job Summary:
 

The Bus Mentor Monitor plays a vital role in ensuring the safety, well-being, and positive behavior of students during their bus ride to and from school. This individual provides support and guidance, acting as a mentor to students by fostering a positive, respectful environment and assisting with conflict resolution. The Bus Mentor Monitor works closely with the bus driver and school staff to ensure a safe, orderly, and pleasant experience for all students.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure Student Safety: Monitor student behavior throughout the bus ride, ensuring that all safety protocols are followed (e.g., staying seated, proper use of seatbelts).
  • Positive Role Modeling: Act as a mentor by promoting respect, responsibility, and kindness among students.
  • Conflict Resolution: Assist students in resolving conflicts in a peaceful and respectful manner, using de-escalation techniques when necessary.
  • Supervision: Maintain order on the bus by actively engaging with students, encouraging positive behavior, and addressing inappropriate actions or language.
  • Communication: Report incidents, concerns, or any issues related to student behavior or safety to the bus driver and school staff.
  • Support for Special Needs Students: Assist students with special needs, providing additional care and attention as needed.
  • Relationship Building: Build rapport with students to foster a trusting and supportive atmosphere during the bus ride.
  • Daily Reports: Maintain logs of any incidents or notable behavior during the bus ride, sharing information with the appropriate school personnel.

 

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working with children in a school, mentoring, or supervisory role preferred.
  • Strong communication, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and act quickly in stressful or emergency situations.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and protocols for school bus transportation.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to work early mornings and afternoons based on school bus schedules.
  • Position requires sitting for extended periods and moving throughout the bus as needed.
